SFR Annual Tech Inspection

Experienced SFR autocrossers may participate in the SCCA Solo2 Annual Tech program.
  • The SFR Tech Chief will administer the program.
  • Inspection is available at selected events, after 1PM.
  • Tech Cards (see below) are available at registration or any annual tech inspection site to those who bring their own rulebooks.  Computer-savvy folks can print their own and glue them permanently to the inside rear cover their rulebooks.

Under this program, cars of eligible SCCA members will be inspected annually for Solo II technical safety and preparation for Solo II competition.  Thereafter, the competitor will be responsible for verifying that the car remains in compliance with the applicable SCCA rules for every event.  If there is a change in the condition of the car during the year, such as damage or significant modification, the competitor is responsible to obtain a re-inspection before running any SCCA event.

The basic SCCA rules for Solo II Annual Tech inspection are in Section 3.3.3.A of the Solo2 Rules (as modified by FasTracks).  SFR will enforce these rules, with the following modifications:

  1. ELIGIBILITY
    1. Must be a current SCCA member, and
    2. Must be judged responsible, skilled, and capable of insuring the safety of a vehicle for competition, and
      1. Must have three years as an active autocrosser with San Francisco Region (SFR), SCCA, or
      2. Must have been certified eligible for Solo II annual tech in a previous year in SFR, or
      3. Must have logged 12 SFR SCCA events at which standard tech inspection is performed, or
      4. May receive special waiver by the SFR SCCA Tech Chief, such as those with equivalent experience at other clubs or SCCA regions.

  2. LOGGING:
    1. Proof of Solo II Annual Tech will be given in the form of a Solo II Annual Tech card which will be glued to the inside back cover of the member's own SCCA Solo2 Rule Book.  This card may be endorsed to indicate the eligibility of a member and inspection of several of their cars.
    2. Additional proof of Solo II Annual Tech will be the Solo II annual tech sticker, which will be stuck to the front windshield in the lower left corner in such a way that it is visible from the outside of the car.  In case of destruction of this sticker, the endorsed rulebook and the inspected car may be presented to get another.
    3. Helmets inspected at Solo II Annual Tech will have an official SCCA helmet inspection sticker (this sticker is also available to regularly inspected helmets).
    4. New entrants may have their rulebook signed for each event for which they pass tech inspection.  12 events must be logged before a member's cars are eligible for annual tech.  Once a member logs 12 events, she or he will continue to be eligible for the SFR Solo II annual tech as long as they can show their endorsed rulebook log.  Once eligible for Solo II Annual Tech, several of a member's cars may be inspected under this annual program -- the logging is per member, not per car.  Eligibility in subsequent years will be endorsed in the new rulebook for that year.

  3. COST:

SFR may in the future decide to charge a fee for Annual Technical inspection; for now there will be no fee.  The personal SCCA Solo Rulebook of the member must be presented, so an additional cost is involved in buying the rulebook.  One rulebook may be used for several cars.

  4. VALIDITY:

A Solo II Annual Tech Inspection is valid for a specific car and driver from its completion until the availability of the SCCA Solo2 Rulebooks at SFR events in the subsequent year, or until the inspected car is damaged or significantly modified.

Solo II Annual Tech inspection is valid for the member whose rulebook has been endorsed.  For co-drivers, this endorsement counts as technical inspection of the car, but helmets must also be inspected.  If the co-driver also has an annual tech endorsement in her rulebook, then together the car endorsement of the primary driver and the endorsement of the co-driver are valid as Tech for the co-driver.  Co-drivers who are not endorsed for annual tech, they must present their helmets for tech inspection at the regular event Tech site along with the car's annual tech endorsement.

  5. VERIFICATION:

Registration will verify Solo II Annual Tech endorsements for every eligible car and driver and mark their registration card as tech'ed.  If a driver does not present his endorsed rulebook, the registration card will not be marked at registration, and the car and driver must go through the regular tech before running the event.  However, a car presented at the event's tech station with an annual tech sticker will be immediately signed off for that event.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY:

The member receiving Solo II Annual Tech endorsement accepts responsibility for the continued safety of their car, and its continued conformance to Section 3.3.3.B.  The member is also responsible for insuring that any co-drivers correctly get tech inspection as required above.

Responsibility of any member will be a judgment call by the Tech Chief or Region Solo2 Chief.  Any irresponsible activity such as speeding or burning out at sites, skipping work assignments, gridding an unsafe car, etc. may be grounds for revocation of any member's Annual Tech eligibility.
